ANNIE SOFIANOPOULOU
Work

As an artist I consciously try to oppose the cruelty that characterizes our time, creating photogenic and colorful works that aim at the visual pleasure of the viewer. Optimistic images with reference to the past and the present, often fairytale-like, filled with bright colours, shiny surfaces and materials that play, reflecting the light, are included in this effort. Plant motifs densely occupy most of the composition and are associated with life and the hope of rebirth, while animals that stare you in the eye or are ready to attack you take you on a journey into the fascinating world of wildlife. In a society where manual labour often falls short of importance I insist through my art on a laborious manual labour that requires time and precision using special and different materials. In my work, the existence of materials such as resin, glitter, glass bead and bold color plates create a visual discourse where through a sense of euphoria, the strange and the imaginary function as an extension of reality.
